Testing Prophetic Claims
Truth does not require revision
Truth does not require revision
God provides tests for those who claim to speak for Him.
If a prophet’s message:
contradicts earlier revelation
denies established truth
requires correction or reinterpretation
then the claim must be examined carefully.
God does not correct Himself.
A dilemma about prophetic truth
Islam honors Jesus (Isa) as a true prophet, yet denies His crucifixion:
“And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him—but it was made to appear so to them.”
— Qur’an 4:157
The New Testament presents Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection as central historical events, attested by eyewitnesses and public proclamation.
This creates a dilemma:
If Jesus taught that He would die and rise again, and this did not happen, He could not be a true prophet.
If it did happen, then later denial of His death must be examined.
True prophecy cannot rest on contradiction.
